    The Cappella Tergestina is a vocal and instrumental ensamble created in June 1993 by the present director Marco Podda. The following year a choir joined the vocal group. From Jannuary 1995 until 2002 the Cappella Tergestina has been recognized as the stable Choir of the Church of Notre Dame de Sion in Triest.

    The Cappella Tergestina performed several concerts in Italy and europe, archieving widespread success among critics and audience. It Won the IV Competition of sacred Poliphony of Guastalla, it was invited by the Ministry for Arts and Culture and  Enviroment and by the "Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Performance department" to perform in Palestrina's Basilica in the review organized by the Committee for Palestrinian Studies (1996).

    In the spring of 1997 the choir held two concerts inside the prestigious Spring Festival of Szombathely (Hungary). In August 1997 it held a series of concerts in the Eufrasian Basilica of Parenzo and in the Dome of Orsera invited by the Croatian Ministry for Arts and Culture.

    During 1998 it worked in conjuction with the Jewish Cultural Associations Yashar to make concerts durin the meetings of "Shalom Trieste".

    Inside the exibition "Salt of the Earth" (Il Sale della Terra), in the Church of S.Francesco in Udine, it performed a show with original music by Marco Podda using texts taken from Friulan poets.

    In December 1999 the Cappella Tergestina was invited to perform an Advent concert in Obervellach (Austria) during the Christmas celebrations.

    In June of 2000 in the Luteran Church in Triest it performed the absolute first night of "Recitar Cantando", the second part and the ideal continuation of "Il Sale della Terra" (Salt of the Earth), containing texts by Triestin Authors with the partecipation of Omero Antonutti and music by Marco Podda.

    The Cappella Tergestina won, with the highest merit, section B, free programme, in the 2000 edition of Seghizzi International Choir Competition of Gorizia. On 3rd July 2000 the Solo group made an impressive concert in Rome (at Generali Palace in Piazza Venezia). In April 2001 it won the silver medal (golden medal not assigned) in the mixed choirs section at the Grado International Competition called "Isola del Sole".

    The summer of 2001 in Fogliano (GO), Isola Morosini (GO) and in Triest, the Cappella Tergestina performed "Tra le Acque", the third and last part of "La mia Terra" with the script written by isontinian authors and music by Marco Podda.

    The choir came in second in the choir section at the IX Festival of Friulan Songs (GO, 30.11.2001) and took part in the charity concert for C.R.I. invited by Beniamino Gigli Associations.

    During the first part of 2002 the CD "Tra le Acque" was recorded with Rosa Ricciotti (soprano), Max René Cosotti (Tenor), Filippo Morace (Bass) as solo singers and the partecipation of Giulio Bosetti as reciting voice.

    At Christmas 2002 the performance "Cantico di Natale" was shown in various churches around the province of Trieste. It was also shown in the Town Council Hall in Trieste; the show consisted in musical and poetical reflections on Christmas with reciting voices, solo singers, choir and orchestra with the partecipation of the actor Marco Casazza.

    The Cappella Tergestina has been dedicated various compositions of popular Italian singers such as Orlando di Piazza, Gian Nicola Vessia, Luciano Migliavacca, don Giuseppe Radole, Marco Sofianopulo, Aldo Michelini and others.

    The Cappella Tergestina has also made TV recordings for RAI 1, RAI 2, Regional RAI 3, Telecapodistria and several local networks.

 

 

Marco Podda was born in Trieste in 1963, where he studied medicine, gaining specialization in otolaryngology and phoniatrics. In parallel with his studies as Medical Doctor, he studied singing with Dietrich Schneider and Renče Jacobs, classic guitar with Ennio Guerrato, choral management with Hans Ludwig Hirsh and orchestral management with Donato Renzetti. Founder and director of the "Cappella Tergestina" Choral Ensemble, Marco Podda also directs/manages "Schola Cantorum St. Eymard" and the choir "Kodesh Vechol Group". He is phoniatric consultant for various Italian theatres.He is chair on "Anatomic-physiology of vocal communication" at the University of Trieste, holding annual, semestral and master courses on "Techniques for the vocal communication and sonorization" During the recent years, he authored and co-authored many scientific publications relevant to spoken and sung voice, the vocal communication and musical metalinguistics. He carried out and currently develops an intense activity as composer: he composed instrumental music both for solo voice and with instrumental accompaniment, both for acappella choir and for choir with instrumental acompaniment and with orchestra. He is also author of musical dramaturgy pieces as well as of musical micro-theatre.He has been honoured of many national and international prizes. His compositions are published and performed both in Italy and abroad and also recorded by publishers such as Carrara, Pizzicato, Audio Ars Studio, Erato as well as for the national RAI Italian network.
